In cell-to-pack construction, the conventional module level between cell and pack is eliminated; cells are integrated directly into the pack structure. This increases the share of active cell volume within the overall pack volume, potentially raising effective system-level energy density and reducing component and interconnection overhead. In return, requirements for individual cell monitoring and mechanical support structure increase, since the module's stabilizing function is no longer present.
