Definition (EN)
The SEI is a thin interface layer that forms on the anode surface during the first charge (formation) from electrolyte decomposition products. A stable SEI protects against further electrolyte decomposition but irreversibly consumes lithium and contributes to capacity loss. Its continued growth is one of the main mechanisms of calendar ageing and is temperature-dependent.
