For BESS projects in the US market, the NEC contains specific sections on energy storage systems, governing requirements for siting, clearances, and electrical installation, and working closely alongside NFPA 855 and the UL certification standards. The NEC is revised every three years, so the edition actually adopted by the relevant municipality must always be verified.
