IECEx
Full Name (EN)
IECEx (International Certification Scheme for Explosion Protection)
Short Definition (EN)
Globally recognized certification scheme for equipment used in explosive atmospheres, the international counterpart to the European ATEX framework.
Category (EN)
Standards, Guidelines and Certifications
Definition (EN)
IECEx is an internationally recognized certification scheme operated by the IEC, confirming the conformity of equipment for use in explosive atmospheres uniformly across national borders, thereby complementing regional frameworks such as the European ATEX system with a globally harmonized certification basis. For battery systems where potentially explosive gas mixtures can form under fault conditions, an IECEx certificate enables manufacturers to address multiple target markets with a single international proof of compliance, rather than undergoing separate regional certification for each market. The specific legal recognition of IECEx certificates nevertheless differs by target market and must be verified on a project-specific basis.
Full Name (DE)
IECEx (Internationales Zertifizierungssystem für Explosionsschutz)
Short Definition (DE)
