A charging hub bundles multiple, usually DC fast-charging points at one site under a shared grid connection, forming the charging infrastructure equivalent of a conventional filling station for long-haul traffic and fleet applications. Since simultaneous full load across all charging points rarely occurs and would require a correspondingly oversized grid connection, dynamic load management is often used to distribute the available connection capacity across actively charging vehicles as needed. A stationary buffer storage system can additionally absorb short-term load peaks, reducing the required grid connection capacity and associated network charges.

Da die gleichzeitige Volllast aller Ladepunkte selten auftritt und einen entsprechend überdimensionierten Netzanschluss erfordern würde, wird häufig ein dynamisches Lastmanagement eingesetzt, das die verfügbare Anschlussleistung situativ auf die aktiv ladenden Fahrzeuge verteilt. Ergänzend kann ein stationärer Pufferspeicher kurzzeitige Lastspitzen abfangen und dadurch die erforderliche Netzanschlussleistung und die zugehörigen Netzentgelte reduzieren.
