CCS extends an existing AC connector type with two additional, large-gauge DC contacts, enabling both AC and DC fast charging through a single vehicle inlet. Two regional variants exist: CCS Combo 1, based on the Type 1 connector, in North America, and CCS Combo 2, based on the Type 2 connector, established as the standard for public DC fast-charging points in Europe. The connector geometry is standardized in IEC 62196-3, with the associated communication requirements in IEC 61851-23/24.
