Modellprädiktive Regelung

Full Name (EN)

Model Predictive Control (MPC)

Short Definition (EN)

Control method that uses a prediction model over a future time horizon to compute the optimal control decision, continuously re-evaluated at each step.

Category (EN)

Energy Management System, Control and Communication

Definition (EN)

Model predictive control uses a mathematical prediction model to compute how a system would behave over a defined future time horizon under various possible control decisions, selects from these the decision sequence that is optimal according to a target criterion, but actually implements only the first step before repeating the entire calculation at the next time step with updated measurement data. In the EMS context of a BESS, this approach enables charge and discharge decisions to be optimized not just based on the current state but forward-looking, based on forecast electricity prices, load profiles, or PV generation, for example to continuously re-balance revenue stacking across multiple revenue streams. The quality of MPC results depends critically on the accuracy of the underlying forecasts, which is why it interacts closely with digital twin and prognosis models.

Full Name (DE)

Modellprädiktive Regelung (Model Predictive Control, MPC)

Short Definition (DE)
