Lithiumhydroxid

Full Name (EN)

Lithium Hydroxide vs. Lithium Carbonate

Short Definition (EN)

Two chemical precursor forms for cathode materials, with differing suitability for nickel-rich versus LFP chemistries.

Category (EN)

Raw Materials and Active Materials

Definition (EN)

Lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate are the two principal chemical precursor forms from which cathode active material is produced, extracted from brine or hard rock via different processing routes. Nickel-rich NMC cathodes predominantly require lithium hydroxide, since it reacts more favourably at the lower sintering temperatures used for these materials, while LFP cathodes mostly use lithium carbonate. This distinction is relevant for supply chain planning, since the supply and price development of the two forms can diverge.

Full Name (DE)

Lithiumhydroxid vs. Lithiumcarbonat

Short Definition (DE)
