Lithium-Titanat
Full Name (EN)
Lithium Titanate (LTO)
Short Definition (EN)
Alternative anode material with very high cycle life, excellent fast-charge capability, and high safety, but substantially lower energy density than graphite.

Definition (EN)
Lithium titanate is used as an anode material in place of graphite and is characterized by exceptionally high cycle life, sometimes reaching several tens of thousands of cycles, very good fast-charge capability even at low temperatures, and a high degree of inherent safety, since the material shows practically no lithium plating and is structurally particularly stable. These advantages come at the cost of substantially lower energy density, both gravimetric and volumetric, as well as a higher nominal voltage of the material itself, which correspondingly lowers cell voltage compared with graphite-based cells. Given this profile, LTO is used specifically in applications with high demands on lifetime, fast-charge capability, and safety, such as certain bus and commercial vehicle fleets and niche stationary storage applications, while graphite or silicon anodes continue to dominate applications primarily focused on energy density.

Definition (DE)
