Definition (EN)
Power fade describes the ageing-related increase in a cell's internal resistance and the resulting loss of short-term deliverable power, independent of how the cell's energy capacity develops. Power fade and capacity fade do not necessarily progress proportionally to one another and are partly driven by different ageing mechanisms, such as SEI layer growth or loss of contact at electrode particles. For applications with high power demands, such as frequency containment reserve, a cell can become functionally inadequate before reaching the typical capacity-based end-of-life criterion.

Leistungsfade beschreibt den alterungsbedingten Anstieg des Innenwiderstands einer Zelle und den damit einhergehenden Verlust an kurzfristig abrufbarer Leistung, unabhängig davon, wie sich die Energiekapazität der Zelle entwickelt. Leistungsfade und Kapazitätsfade verlaufen nicht zwangsläufig proportional zueinander und beruhen teilweise auf unterschiedlichen Alterungsmechanismen, etwa Wachstum der SEI-Schicht oder Kontaktverlust an Elektrodenpartikeln. Für Anwendungen mit hohem Leistungsanspruch, etwa Frequenzhaltungsreserve, kann eine Zelle bereits vor Erreichen des typischen Kapazitäts-End-of-Life-Kriteriums funktional unzureichend werden.
