ISO 15118 defines digital communication between vehicle and charge point over the physical charging cable, including authentication, billing and negotiation of charging power. The standard enables Plug-and-Charge, in which the vehicle authenticates itself automatically to the charge point, as well as bidirectional use cases such as V2G. It governs vehicle-to-charge-point communication and should therefore be distinguished from OCPP, which addresses communication between the charge point and the backend system.
