In the energy contracting model, a specialized third party, the contractor, finances, builds and operates a BESS on the customer's premises, while the customer makes no capital investment of its own but merely pays for the capacity used, costs saved, or another agreed outcome. This model substantially lowers the entry barrier for customers without their own capital tie-up or technical operating know-how, but in return shifts a share of the long-term economic value creation to the contractor.
